Eltham Developments
Grove Market Site
Eltham Renaissance has planning permission to redevelop the existing boarded up shopping centre at the Grove Market site in Court Yard. The planning permission allows for a 7 storey building comprising 129 residential units, 4 restaurant/cafes, a GP's surgery, private amenity space and basement car parking. The planning permission also allows for the re-development of 60 Eltham High Street to provide a retail unit.

The scheme is currently being reviewed by the developer who expects to submit a revised planning application in summer 2010. It is understood that the new scheme may contain provision for a small budget hotel along with residential and commercial units, though it is anticipated that the size and scale of the building will be in keeping with the previous planning permission.

Former Coronet Cinema
At the northern approach to the town, the Cathedral Group has been granted planning permission to turn the former art-deco Odeon Cinema into a vibrant mixed-use development, including 63 residential units, a restaurant based around the old foyer, a 60 seat auditorium for Greenwich University and the redevelopment of neighbouring shops. The plans will provide much needed new housing, in addition to new space for retail, business and community use, and will retain much of the original character of the Grade II listed building including the restoration and refurbishment of the front of the cinema to its original condition. A start on site is anticipated in summer 2010.

Former Eltham Baths
London & Quadrant Housing Association has acquired the former Eltham Baths site on Eltham Hill and is working up plans for a mixed residential development. These will provide for 78 units consisting of 46 shared ownership apartments and 2 shared ownership houses, 8 general needs family apartments, and 22 apartments for residents aged 50 and over. The development will also include facilities such as a garden room, communal garden, children’s play facility and underground car park with one-to-one parking for all residents.

Former Eltham Gym
The former Eltham Gym site in Messeter Place has planning permission for a small housing development comprising flats and town houses. Due to the current economic climate, the owner advises that he has no immediate plans to develop the site and is focussing on projects in other areas. He may submit a revised planning application at some stage in 2010.

New Community Hospital, Passey Place
NHS Greenwich plans to build a new Community Hospital in the heart of the town centre at Passey Place (just off Eltham High Street), with a view to opening in early 2013. Following consultation on the range of services to be offered, the PCT has developed detailed proposals and designs and expects to submit a planning application in August 2010. The plans are for the community hospital to host a seven day a week GP surgery, ‘walk-in’ Urgent Care Centre, outpatients services and 40 intermediate care beds. Further details can be found at www.greenwichpct.nhs.uk (see “news and events”).

Orangery
Greenwich Enterprise Board has plans to redevelop the former Orangery in
Orangery Lane. The proposed redevelopment will retain the character of the existing building and include a new 2 storey building which will house 11 units for start-up businesses. Planning permission was granted in March 2010 and detailed design work is now in hand. It is hoped that the development will be completed by Autumn 2011.

Kidbrooke Development
Just beyond the town there are plans for an estimated £1 billion redevelopment at Kidbrooke which will provide around 4,800 new homes (of which 1,900 will be affordable housing), schools, shops, leisure and health facilities and improved transport links. Planning permission for Phase 1 of the development was granted last March and building works started in September 2009. This will provide 449 houses and apartments, with the first units being available from Spring 2010. The Phase 1 construction period is expected to span 3 years in total. Planning permission for Phases 2 and 2a was granted in March 2010 which will allow for the construction of a further 800 homes.
