Eltham's town centre nearby to Eltham Palace offers a good mix of retail outlets, combining specialist independent shops with a broad range of of over 30 national chain stores including a newly refurbished Marks & Spencer, Debenhams and Next. The town centre is well laid out with a traditional high street and is simple to navigate.

For food and grocery shopping there is the high quality M&S Food Hall in the newly refurbished store with easy parking at the entrance, a large Sainsbury's with ample parking, , Iceland, and a number of small independent grocery stores. A brand new Lidl store is now open on the High Street.

The town centre also boasts a good selection of public houses, restaurants and cafes (see "Dining" section) where people can take a break from shopping.

Eltham is a busy centre with a full complement of commercial and council services provided within the main shopping areas.

All Council services are now provided at the Eltham Centre in Archery Road (just off the high street) and the vast array of commercial services can be found by searching the service categories on this page.

Eltham town centre presents a good choice in terms of eating out either while shopping or when socialising in the evening.

Eltham has 25 cafes and fast food outlets, 7 pubs and 6 restaurants to choose from. So whether you like Italian, Chinese, Indian or more traditional food, there is a choice for you.

Eltham is hoping to increase its restaraunt offerings in the next few years as new developments take shape.

Eltham now has a brand new leisure complex just off the High street in Archery road.

The new centre boasts swimming pools, spa, fitness centre, activity areas, large refurbished library and cafe (see separate entry).

Also in the Town Centre is St Marys Community complex which hosts many specialist clubs.

In the Town Centre near the railway station we now have the youth wing of Blackheath rugby club. The youth teams train and play at their new ground next to Well Hall Pleasaunce

These leisure facilities plus the pubs and restaurants provide easy places to meet and socialise and make Eltham a good meeting place for leisure activities.

Eltham is famous for its old royal palace which is now a major Art decco attraction within the UK. This wonderful display of Historical buildings, Moat, Art Decco interiors plus wonderful formal gardens are a delight to visit.

Eltham is also the birthplace of some famous entertainers and the late great comedian Bob Hope has a theatre named after him within the Town centre. The Bob Hope theatre has a full program throughout the year that is always well supported.

Eltham also boasts its own Arts Academy for 7 to 16 year olds. The Belcanto London Acadamy is centrally situated in the heart of the Town Centre which makes it easy to reach via bus or rail.

Apart from the main arts venues in Eltham there is a lively scene of arts groups within and around the Town Centre.
